Building a robotic vacuum product and brand
which co-exist as a family member

For 3.5 years, together with an amazing team of people at Robart GmBh I was designing and developed a product, led the UX team, conducted UX research and prepared UX strategies to create the smartest and most user-friendly robotic helper.

Conducting and evaluating in-home-use testing.
Planning, preparing and managing the action plan.

In-home-use testing is an important part of product development, which helps to find out undiscovered issues and react before the product hits the mass market.

Managing App, Alexa & IOT customisations

I was responsible for managing App, Amazon Alexa and IOT customisation for one of our clients. I took care of internal requirements, as well as client desires and lead weekly internal meetings and weekly meetings with the client. I took care of deliverables from both sides. I was cooperating with the Project Manager and preparing frequent status updates.

Romy Robot app

As a lead UX&UI designer, I was discovering and setting directions for impactful features and improvements for the Romy Robot app. Through the audit of the first app, and discovering users' pains & needs, I set a course to establish a design system, listen to the users, test and prototype, push for a change, and again test.

Designing a robotic vacuum for high-performance and animal users.

Main role:

  • audit of the proposed product due to UX and ergonomy

  • leading, conducting and evaluating in-home use test with external users

  • Robot UI/UX design lead

  • Color and material lead

  • Robot design customisation fit for Romy brand

Design audit of the proposed product

The very first task in the project was for me to evaluate the existing robot proposal from the manufacturer regarding usability and ergonomics. As there was some room for improvement I documented the tests and proposed solutions for the pains.

Setting Romy decor, colour and material direction

The challenge

When approaching a new project, it is always exciting to start with a fresh, new mindset. But when the tools have been already done and set by the manufacturer the task becomes a little bit more tricky. This was a deal for Romy L6. With a need to adjust the design of the product into the Romy Robot family and almost no possibilities to adjust the tools playing around with colour, finish and IMT technology can still pay off.

As a designer, I started by defining similarities between the given product and previously designed Romy robots. Once the links were found I proceed with designing a colour system for the products depending on the functionality of the part, usage and whether or not it's a movable/clickable element.

After everything was set I created a design specification and evaluated samples send by the manufacturer. Additionally to protect the design of our product from other customers I created a document defining do&don'ts while customizing the robot.

In-home use testing

I was planning, preparing, conducting and evaluating in-home-use-testing with robotic vacuums. That helped to evaluate the product and make the final check of the potential issues or points to improve regarding the robotic vacuum itself or the app.

Main role:

  • Planning IHUT: type, tasks, evaluating possible gains

  • Managing UX team to prepare, conduct and evaluate IHUT for two products.

  • Keeping an eye on day-to-day challenges for the users

  • Managing a list of issues, prioritizing, evaluating it with other teams and tracking the progress

  • Planning and managing weekly internal meetings regarding IHUT with other teams

  • Comparing IHUTs among the products

  • Preparing, presenting and introducing Action Plan after IHUT
